School Safety Webinar
K-12 Sextortion and Online Safety
The Kentucky Office of Homeland Security will be presenting a free virtual School Safety Webinar on the evening of Monday, April 7, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
Children and young adults are particularly vulnerable to sextortion and the recent increase of sextortion-related cases across the Commonwealth proves the need to discuss and understand the threat. Teachers, coaches, and other school staff must always be vigilant for any suspicious activity they may encounter. The purpose of this webinar is to alert educators and law enforcement to the issue of sextortion and ways to keep students safe online, including different types of threats and concerns that come with social media. It will also provide steps on how to handle instances of sextortion or child abuse material online.
Topics of Discussion will include:
Social Media and Gaming: How social media and gaming sites can be recruitment grounds for human traffickers in targeting school-age kids.
Sextortion and Online Satanic Groups: Information related to sextortion and online extremist cults targeting children.
Sextortion Response: What to do if you have a case of sextortion in your school or community.
Speakers included from the Federal Bureau of Investigations, Kentucky State Police, and an expert in the field of open-source intelligence, social media analysis, and the formulation of threat assessments and mitigation strategies.
Registration is now open: KOHS K-12 School Sextortion and Online Safety Presentation
