Here’s an exciting update to our PREPaRE Workshop 2 professional learning opportunity… Thanks to our friends at KDE, the $55 materials cost for participants will be waived for ALL registrants, making this amazing opportunity FREE! Don’t miss this amazing opportunity for your school/district crisis response team!

The Kentucky Crisis Response Team for Schools is a partnership created by the Kentucky Association of Educational Cooperatives and supported by the Kentucky Department of Behavioral Health. Our team is composed of school administrators, school based mental health professionals, and other school personnel who have a passion to serve during times of crisis.

I wanted to make you aware of a fantastic opportunity for your school and district this summer. Do you feel prepared to respond when a crisis occurs? Whether it’s the death or serious injury of a student or a staff member, or a community based crisis, we will all face a crisis some time in our career. Our team has received a grant that covers nearly all the cost of PREPaRE Workshop 2. This two-day professional learning is scheduled throughout the state in June, July, August, and September. Participants will gain valuable skills that will help them develop a comprehensive crisis response plan for their school and district. A database of trained responders will then be created and used to notify members when there is a crisis in your region. Of course, you would never be required to serve outside of your district, but it will be a huge benefit to know we have personnel within the state who are trained to respond to a crisis. Ideally, we would have two to five trained responders from every school in Kentucky. (Please note descriptions below. PREPaRE Workshop 1 is not a prerequisite to Workshop 2).

PREPaRE is an evidence-based training curriculum aimed to equip members of multidisciplinary school crisis teams and school-based mental health professionals to engage in comprehensive school crisis prevention and intervention. The program’s acronym stands for Prevent/Prepare for psychological trauma, Reaffirm physical health, security, and safety, Evaluate psychological trauma, Provide interventions (and) Respond to psychological needs; and Examine the effectiveness of prevention and intervention efforts. Although PREPaRE is not specifically a suicide prevention program, it aims to help school-based professionals prevent and respond to a range of school crises, including suicide, in ways that align with research and best practices. Workshop 2 is most appropriate for school-employed mental health professionals (school psychologists, counselors, social workers and nurses), as well as administrators and other school staff members who will be called upon to make decisions during a school or district crisis.

Registration is now open for the following dates/locations.
