SSCs and Superintendents,

The 2024-2025 “Response to Active Shooter” video link is active. The viewing of this video is mandated for all district employees with job duties requiring direct contact with students. The video link and video is identical to last year and will be updated for the 2025-2026 school year. Below are suggestions for the best way to view the video and discuss the contents.

It is a recommendation to watch the video in a group setting, not a requirement. We recommend watching in a group for two reasons:

  1. To support staff that have an emotional response to the content of the training. A group setting may ease the tension and allow counselors/friends to be in the room.
  2. Most importantly, it is to spark conversation on how your school will respond to an active shooter situation. An hour video cannot address all questions or issues that district staff may have regarding a specific school’s response. Teachers and staff have to come up with a plan that is tailored to the school in which they work. Cafeteria workers, teachers, custodians, etc. all need to be part of the plan and know their role. It also would be great to have first responders to come by and answer questions during or after the video is viewed. We suggest at least letting small groups watch it together. Examples: grade levels, teachers on the same floor or wing of the school.

This is the most effective way to view the video.

Again, it is a recommendation and not a requirement. It is a recommendation to use this video and training time to make a solid plan of action.

As always, contact your assigned compliance officer if you have any questions.

Thank you for your work and dedication to the safety of all students and staff!
