June 22-23, 2022 Safe Schools and Communities Conference

Hosted by the Kentucky Center for School Safety

This two-day event is FREE OF CHARGE and is open to law enforcement officers, school administrators, and school personnel. Registration will be on a first come, first serve basis so register soon. Attendance to this conference does include membership to the Kentucky Association of School Resource Officers (KYASRO) and the Kentucky DARE Association for law enforcement participants.

  • Keynote speakers: Frank De Angelis, former principal at Columbine High School and Jermaine Galloway (Tall Cop), expert in the detection and prevention of substance abuse.
  • Join us for an informal social event held on Wednesday, June 22nd from 5:00 – 7:00 at the Mule Barn, Arlington Country Club in Richmond. Come gather for networking, barbeque, and music. All conference participants are welcome! FREE OF CHARGE.
  • # Law enforcement award ceremony during lunch on Thursday, June 23rd
  • Breakout sessions on the following topics:

Mental Health Issues – Several sessions will be offered on working with autistic students and general mental health updates with students.

School Law Update – A school law update will be provided for school-based law enforcement and school personnel.

Interviewing Students – The presenter will discuss special circumstances on how to properly interview students.

Social Media Trends – Multiple sessions will review recent trends in social media and how social media is related to human trafficking Building Effective Relationships – This panel discussion will discuss how SROs and Administrators can build effective relationships in schools.

Threat Assessment Updates – Presenters will discuss the development and function of a schoolbased threat assessment team.

What keeps You Up at Night Regarding the Safety in Your School? – An open discussion with Jon Akers and Ben Wilcox will cover various topics with school administrators and law enforcement officers.

Creating Safer Spaces for LGBTQ Youth – This training will overview how to create a safe and supportive educational spaces for LGBTQ youth.
