The Kentucky Center for School Safety (KCSS), in collaboration with the Kentucky Association of School Resource Officers (KYASRO), offered a competitive award program for school resource officer programs. School districts were asked to submit their SRO programs to be considered as a Kentucky SRO Promising Program.

“SROs are part of the fiber of a school community. They serve as mentors, teachers, and protectors of our students.” Jon Akers, Executive Director of KCSS

TAYLOR COUNTY:
Taylor County’s SRO Program has been in existence for over 20 years. Long before it was a legal requirement to have an SRO on each campus, Taylor County Schools made it a priority. The Taylor County Schools Police Department, the SRO Program, has six full-time officers. The Taylor County Schools Police Department includes a licensed peace officer on each of Taylor County School District’s campuses (primary, intermediate, middle, and high school) and an at-large licensed officer focusing on education programs and outreach. The at-large officer also provides additional support on various campuses when needed. Taylor County SROs take a proactive approach and are constantly seeking ways to educate students so that students can make good decisions about their relationships, physical safety, and overall health.
