SUMMARY:Aug. 5\, 2026 – Bomb Threat Assessment for K-12 Leaders and Staff Virtual Training
DESCRIPTION:Shared by Christina Weeter\, KDE via KYSAFE ListServ \nSee below for a training opportunity from CISA.  If you have any questions\, please contact the CISA School Safety team at SchoolSafety@cisa.dhs.gov. \n\nPlease join the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency’s (CISA) School Safety Task Force and Office for Bombing Prevention on Wednesday\, August 5 for a Bomb Threat Assessment for K-12 Leaders and Staff virtual training. Two identical sessions will be offered: 9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. ET and 3:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. ET. \nEvery bomb threat made against a K-12 school forces leaders to make immediate\, high-consequence decisions that impact students\, staff\, and the surrounding community. Schools continue to receive more bomb threats than any other sector in the nation and evacuation remains the most common response\, even when it may not be the most appropriate action. \nThis training will equip school officials and security professionals with a structured\, risk-based approach for evaluating bomb threats and selecting response actions based on the available information. By strengthening coordination and informed decision making\, schools can better protect lives while reducing unnecessary evacuations\, instructional disruption\, community anxiety\, and the operational impact caused by bomb threats. \nEvent Details \n\nWhen: Wednesday\, August 5 (choose one session: 9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. ET or 3:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. ET)\nWhere: Microsoft Teams Town Hall (access link to be provided to registrants one day in advance of the event)\nRegistration: K12BombThreatAssessment.eventbrite.com\n\n\nRegister Here\n\nParticipants in this training will gain the knowledge and tools needed to make confident decisions when every minute matters. The subject matter covered will be particularly relevant to school and district administrators\, school security staff\, emergency management professionals\, and other school-based personnel. If you have any questions\, please contact the CISA School Safety team at SchoolSafety@cisa.dhs.gov. \nCISA’s School Safety Virtual Trainings are designed to address key school safety issues facing the K-12 academic community. Each virtual training features leaders and subject matter experts from a range of organizations\, who share information\, best practices and resources available to prevent\, protect against\, mitigate\, respond to and recover from critical school safety threats and risks. Learn more about CISA’s school safety program here. \nIf you require a reasonable modification to fully participate in this event\, please email both SchoolSafety@cisa.dhs.gov and CISA.PACT_Compliance@cisa.dhs.gov as soon as possible with your request. \n

SUMMARY:August 25\, 2026 – CACKy & FBI Victim Services virtual training on Violent Online Networks
DESCRIPTION:Shared by Christina Weeter\, KDE via KYSAFE ListServ \nI’d like to pass along the following training opportunity hosted by the FBI on risks for sexual exploitation of students/children.  This is not a KDE-sponsored training so please direct any questions to cnwilde@fbi.gov. \n\nFBI Victim Services Presents: Violent Online Networks \nThe Teams link to join the training session will be provided one week in advance of each training date. \nPlease join FBI Victim Specialist Stacey Sanders\, Cassie Wilde\, and FBI CAFI Hillary Kozloski-Smith for a presentation on Violent Online Networks. This presentation focuses on the growing threat of online extremist networks and the unique challenges they present when identifying victims and conducting interviews.  VON refers to a decentralized online extremist network that targets vulnerable individuals\, often minors through social media platforms\, gaming spaces\, and encrypted messaging apps. These groups use manipulation\, coercion\, and psychological control to exploit victims. Tactics may include grooming\, threats\, humiliation\, self-harm coercion\, sexual exploitation\, and the production of violent or degrading content. Unlike traditional organized groups\, these channels operate through loosely connected online communities that encourage escalating harm\, radicalization\, and control over victims. Victims are often isolated\, fearful\, and manipulated into believing they cannot leave or report the abuse. \nHousekeeping: \n\nThis training will not be recorded.\nThere will be time available after presentation for questions for MDT members.\n\nObjective: \n\nTo ensure Forensic interviewers and MDT members understand the dynamics of online coercion\, the psychological control used by offenders\, and the significant shame\, fear\, and loyalty conflicts victims may experience.\nGuidance on building rapport\, avoiding judgment\, and allowing victims to explain their online experiences in their own words is critical to obtaining accurate information while minimizing further trauma.\nUnderstanding these networks and their tactics for investigations and forensic interviewing to identify victims\, gather evidence\, and support recovery.\n\nContent Warning: Information discussed includes child abuse\, child sexual abuse\, animal cruelty\, blood & gore\, self-mutilation\, eating disorders\, mental health disorders\, and violence. \nInformation: https://www.ic3.gov/PSA/2025/PSA250306 \nhttps://www.missingkids.org/blog/2025/using-sextortion-to-groom-kids-for-violence-pain \nRegistration link: https://forms.cloud.microsoft/pages/responsepage.aspx?id=42PHTvX1D0aWHb2HEf5rxcUjP2ampSVDg_jgq4ehLBpUNjZWRkJaVDhMMk5INEhTTEJVQkVTQlA3RiQlQCN0PWcu&route=shorturl \n
