SUMMARY:June 23\, 2026 – Current SSC update training
DESCRIPTION:From the desk of Jon Akers\, Executive Director of Kentucky Center for School Safety \nI am sharing our plans for our annual update training for all current School Safety Coordinators. We typically work with experienced SSCs in June\, new SSCs in July. Tentatively\, we are scheduling New SSCs for official training sessions on July 20 & July 27. \nWe are going with a different format this year. During the regional meetings with SSCs this past semester\, you have not been shy about sharing ideas for training. \nTherefore\, we are attempting to implement your suggestions regarding our SSC training program.  The goal here is to provide you with appropriate up to date information regarding current practices in school safety and the laws that govern these practices. \nExperienced SSCs may choose one of the following (you are welcome to join us for both sessions\, but the format is identical): \nJune 17\n9:00-10:30 Eastern\n8:00-9:30 Central\nLINK TO REGISTER FOR JUNE 17 TRAINING SESSION:\nExperienced SSC Training Session #1 Webinar Registration – Zoom \nOR \nJune 23\n9:00-10:30 Eastern\n8:00-9:30 Central\nLINK TO REGISTER FOR JUNE 23 TRAINING SESSION:\nExperienced SSC Training Session # 2 Webinar Registration – Zoom\nWe will review the responsibilities of the SSC and respond to any questions you may have. We will be offering 2 hours of EILA credit for the update training. \nAdditionally\, we will be holding nine different monthly sessions throughout the 2026-27 school year in locations spread across Kentucky. We ask you to physically attend at least one of those sessions. The first of those is taking place as part of the DPP Conference taking place in Lexington on September 16-18 at the Marriott Griffin Gate and will focus on Emergency Operations Planning and assessing your plans on a regular basis. The dates and topics for all nine sessions will be shared as soon as the arrangements are complete\, probably by mid-July. We will be offering additional EILA credit for these regional sessions as well. \nAs always with experienced SSCs\, I invite you to send questions that you have in advance to Dan Orman (KCSS Training Coordinator\, Dan.Orman@ksba.org).
