Teachers
  • Review with the students new policies in their student handbook such as HB 91-Anti Bullying.  Text Summary (Kentucky Legislature)
KDE Guidelines for Schools and Sample KSBA Policy
    Sample Reporting Forms-Covington School District
  • Have a lunch buddy’s day and invite a fireman or policeman to school for lunch.  This could be the beginning of career education in your classroom.
  • Have students design and write thank you notes to support staff at school and first responders.   (Art and Language Arts)
  • In English class write about how a specific first responder could assist your school in an emergency.
  • Have students take the "Kids Safety Quiz" and then discuss the correct answers in class.  Perhaps have students draw pictures that illustrate the correct answer for each question.
  • Explain what “first responders” means and how they can help in an emergency situation.
Students
  • Explore careers choices of first responders (firemen, policemen, EMT Emergency Room Techs).
  • Draw pictures promoting playground safety rules and procedures and display in the halls.
Community Members
  • Have parents meet with first responders and discuss how they can help in a crisis situation
  • Form parent volunteer groups who can be used to do hazard hunts, work on committees with first responders and collect items for classroom response kits.
  • Have students talk to local community groups about school safety issues.
