Administrators
  • Commit to continuous planning for school safety at the district and school level. Enhance and review school crisis plans on an annual basis.
  • Plan professional development to heighten awareness of school safety issues, crisis training, classroom management, etc...
  • Use drill log to document lockdown, earthquake, fire and other disaster drills
  • Take a pledge against school violence online at KCSS
  • Take a pledge against bullying online at KCSS
  • Take a pledge against misuse of the Internet

Teachers
  • Keep a journal of each time you promote safe schools and share this with your classes to show your involvement in striving to make your school safe.
  • Volunteer to be a part of the crisis response team at your school.
  • Form a site-based committee on school safety subordinate to the barriers to learning component committee for the CSIP.
  • Make a safe schools wall of fame and when you see a student working to make your school safe add his/her picture to the wall.
  • Check the McGruff website for activities, games, etc. on proper student behavior.
  • Take a pledge against school violence online at KCSS
  • Take a pledge against bullying online at KCSS. Line the walls of your classroom or school with the certificates and show your "Anti-Bully Pledges" to all who enter.
  • Take a pledge against misuse of the Internet. This correlates with an Acceptable Use Policy  (AUP) at your school.
Students
  • Rewrite songs and apply the words to anti-bullying or violence
  • In English class write a note to someone who has said something mean to you and forgive them or ask forgiveness for something you have done that was not acceptable
  • Form a SAVE (Students Against Violence Everywhere) club
  • Sign cards against school violence and display in halls or classroom
  • Keep a journal and each time you do anything that is promoting safe schools write it down and share with your classmates during a set time in a designated class.
  • Color pages with proper bus behavior and explain how you can make a difference in bus behavior. (Elementary)
  • Take a pledge against school violence online at KCSS. Remember if you hear about something that could be dangerous to others, tell someone who can help.
  • Take a pledge against bullying online at KCSS. Have your parents take the pledge and share with their friends.
  • Take a pledge against misuse of the Internet. Remember the rules Internet use and put the pledge on your computer at home where your family can see it.
Community Members
  • Volunteer to assist in the computer lab at your child's school while the students take the Online Pledge Against Bullying  at KCSS.
  • Take a pledge against misuse of the Internet and discuss it with school children and others.
  • Attend school meetings on curriculum, school safety and school improvement. Volunteer your services when you are able to assist with small items such as bus monitor, chaperoning a field trip, lunch room buddy or reading with students to build relationships with children and make schools a nurturing environment.
